Take a shot when
- A greenhorn makes a mistake
- Someone has a mental breakdown (threatens to jump ship, etc)
- When someone gets hurt and Narrator Mike Rowe says, “Not a big deal.. On a crab boat”

Notes
In some cases, the drinks can really pile up. For example, if a boat has to head to Akutan Island for emergency repairs, not only would you take a shot for the Akutan Island run, you would also take two drinks for the repairs.
