About

Who are you?

I’m a 30-something male living in the Silicon Valley.  I was born and raised in Minnesota, but moved to the Bay Area a few weeks after graduating from the University of Minnesota.

When did the idea for this website come about?

The Blue Can ‘officially’ started around March of 2008.  Prior to that, the site went through a few transformations.  The original idea for my own site took shape back in 1999-2000 when I actually paid for my own domain and space through IPOWERWEB.  At the time my website was devoted entirely to college hockey.  I decided to fold up shop in 2003.  In November 2005, Brown Liquor Thoughts was born on Blogger.  This site lasted into the spring of 2006 when I moved to WordPress and became Garage Drinkin’.  In the summer of 2007 I moved back to Blogger and kept the Garage Drinkin’ name.  The site had some personal stuff, but was mostly sports-related.  In January 2008 I completely shut that site down and started what would become The Blue Can under the ‘edgy’ name of Hookers and Booze.

Why are you constantly changing your layout?

I get bored of layouts very quickly.  Who cares as long as you can read the content, right?

What is your favorite food?

BBQ chicken.  Always has been, always will be.

Do you drink?

Obviously.  Just look at the content of this site.  I’m a beer whore.  I will drink pretty much any beer you put in front of me except the dark stuff.  I also have been known to enjoy a Jack and Coke or two and even dabble in wine from time to time.

Any interesting facts about you the reader might not be aware of?

Many.  I have never had crab nor have I had lobster.  I’ve had crab cakes, but that doesn’t really count.  People I know just don’t say, “Hey, let’s go get some crab/lobster tonight.”  Amazing fact considering I don’t live all that far from the ocean.

I used to be an avid runner, actually finishing a marathon when I was 17 with a time of 3:03:44.

I played trombone for several years.

I have never been abroad.  My foreign country experience = Canada.  Awesome.  I would, however, like to visit parts of England, France, Belgium, and Germany (see next tidbit).

I am a World War 2 buff.

I love Iron Maiden.

I have never been to New York City, Boston, or Philadephia.

I think maps are extremely cool.

I think the greatest show in the history of television is The Andy Griffith Show.

I have never shopped at Whole Foods.  I still get the bulk of my food products from Safeway.

I’m not one of those people who need to work (you know who you are).  If I ever won the lottery (need to play it first, though), I would never work again.  In fact, aside from the initial administrative duties that go along with winning said lottery, I would spend a few weeks doing absolutely nothing.

Thanks to the random, weird, fun stuff going on in your life, I just wasted 2 hours of mine. I didn’t bother reading the boring crap though.

A great way to waste some time. I like your style. I think you’ll like mine so come on by and see what I’m about.
